  • 11am meet at 2/3 Station at 13th Street and 7th Avenue.
  • While our priority is to seek out and support local food production and local businesses, it’s important to learn about the process of importation and the distribution of imported products (if only to learn how to better organize LOCAL food distribution in the future…).  Join us to check out these importers of Italian products!

April 9 (1AM)Fulton Fish Market, Bronx, NY

  • We will be joined by Sean Dimin of Sea to Table, and Chef Dave Pasternack of Esca.
  • Keep in mind, this trip will last from about 1am to 7am.  We’ll make sure breakfast is delicious!  Think eggs and fresh fish, warm buttered bread and hot coffee in the early morning…all prepared by Esca sous-chef Katie O’Donnell!

April 11 : Bakehouse, Columbia NJ

  • Bread-baking, pizza-making, and learning from the incredible Kathy.

  • 9am meet at the Kimmel Center (60 Washington Square South) – the bus will depart promptly!

April 17: Stony Brook Farm, Schoharie NY and Nichols Meat Processing, Altamont NY

  • We will be leaving early in the morning.  We may visit an extra farm.  Check back for more details (soon)!

April 24Eli Zabar’s Rooftop Greenhouse, New York, NY

  • Just look at the photos.  It’s incredible.   Right in the midst of the Upper East Side.

April 25: Fresh Kills Landfill, Staten Island NY

  • FreshKills Landfill was at one point the largest refuse heap known to mankind. We are visiting the site to witness its transformation into a public recreation space three times the size of Central Park. A real life NYC Urban Park Ranger will be our guide. We will be meeting at 10:45 at the Whitehall (South) Ferry Terminal, and hopping on the 11 a.m. ferry to Staten Island. We should be back around 4 p.m.

September 20: Added Value’s Red Hook Community Farm.

October 3: Sprint Recycling Center, Newark NJ.

  • Come check out where the recyclable waste from campus goes! Meet at NYU Kimmel Center at 11 am to catch a ride to the Sprint facility in Newark NJ. We’ll be back on campus by 3 that afternoon.

October 4: East New York Farms!

  • 11am meet at the 2/3 Station at 13th Street and 7th Avenue. We’ll take the subway straight to East New York (Van Siclen Avenue), Youth Training Coordinator David Vigil will introduce us to the farm, we’ll dig into our picnic lunch, and we’ll lend a hand in the harvest!

  • Meet at 10:45am outside Alleva Dairy, on the corner of Mulberry and Grand Streets in Little Italy.

November 21: Madani Halal Slaughterhouse & Meat Tasting led by Jake Dickson
